Saint Paul de Vence is a medieval village located a short distance north west of Nice and whilst my recent visit to South of France we decided to make it a day and go visit the village! I am undoubtedly in love with it so I have created this list for you so you can fall in love like a did…It is well known for its reputation of having attracted many world class artists! Definitely worthy checking it out!
1- HAVE LUNCH AT LA COLOMBE D’OR
We went on an early and sunny Saturday afternoon and it took us a while to find the place since it is a little hidden. Once you walk in you will find the terrace and you will most likely want to sit outside if it is a nice day – the restaurant was quite busy and the atmosphere is incredible, people are having a great time while sipping a glass of wine, very chilled. We had parma ham and melon to start with and I swear it was the juicest melon I’ve ever had, followed by fish main course! Make sure to visit the boutique and the restaurant indoor as it has an impressive art collection! Definitely the best spot for art lovers.. Can you imagine Picasso, Matisse, Prevert have frequented here? Quite overwhelming!
2- CHECK THE VIEWS
Wander around Saint Paul de Vence like a free soul only to come across the most stunning views from this medieval hill village on the surrounding landscapes! You can see the snow-covered Alps to one side, and the glistening Mediterranean Sea the other direction. You see what it makes me? I am just a little extra inspired here thinking of this wonderful place. TAKE ME BACK RIGHT NOW! :)
3- THE VILLAGE
Not only the “commercial/tourist” side of Saint Paul de Vence, walk around the houses, many artists have lived here and it is quite interesting to walk through these narrow streets!
4- ART GALLERIES
As soon as you enter the village you encounter lots of galleries, you will realize that the village is all about Art. Even if you are not an art collector it is quite interesting to check out and to gaze at the various different art works!
5- GRAB A CREPE BEFORE YOU GO
Is there anything more french than a crepe? Make sure you grab one before you leave! You won’t have trouble finding a place but in case you do, check out the Terrase Restaurant.
