“I don’t know if I’ve ever had a muse per se. I would say that the woman I’m inspired by exists more in sketchbooks. She exists in my head” Moralioglu, Erdem. Oh yes, this is so damn right. When I set my eyes on Erdem’s catwalk for SS17 I understood instantly what a muse should dress like, from the designers sketchbook to right in front of my eyes he made them come alive. The type of muse that is so incredibly feminine, who wears flowers and embroidery but that can’t contain herself and shows it through vibrant colours, and also has a posture in the world and attitude as she walks. I really like the muse of your eyes, Erdem.
In partnership with Selfridges this season I was able to have a closer look and a different perspective to his collection. There were a few things I made up in my mind as I watched the show (knowing barely nothing of what was about to come! Like a box full of surprises!). I definitely have a passion for the designer (girl fan crush right here!), so my heart was beating faster for each of what I like to call: a true piece of art!
Après the show and as part of the #SelfridgesDoesFashionWeek project, I interviewed the designer a few questions about his collection which you can see here. We spoke about his key piece and what inspired him as well as his long-term successful partnership with Selfridges.
I am wearing a Maira Floral-print silk pencil skirt and a Ruffled Floral print silk shirt from the designers collection available at Selfridges now. It has his signature style all over it, dreamy flowers print and soft fabric… Makes me feel just like a girl from his sketchbook! What I love about Erdem collection the most is that the essence of his work is always so visible – feminine, dreamy and dramatic!
